West of Pomona, a massive Parker Through Truss bridge once crossed the Marias des Cygnes River.
The now replaced truss bridge here was built in 1905 as part of a double track reconstruction.
When reconstructing the line, the railroad spared no expenses; building some of the largest and strongest trusses in Kansas.
The solo span of the bridge was a 9-panel, pin connected Parker Through Truss.
The substructures of the bridge were made of concrete. This bridge demonstrated a high level of historic integrity, with little alterations.
Unfortunately, this bridge was replaced during 2018 and 2019. A new through girder bridge was opened in 2019. The truss bridge was marketed to anyone who wanted it, but it unfortunately came with a heavy cost to simply remove from the site.
Despite the great historic integrity this structure demonstrates, the author has ranked it as moderate significant, due to the more common nature of this type of truss in the region.
